Jake is graduating from Cortland State College. He is the most fun loving guy on campus. So many funny memories of this funny kid…I remember the day he left the restroom, looked at me and said “it’s all yours, sista”. His mother was mortified and reprimanded him sternly. I thought it was hysterical. He was only about 4 years old. Then there was the day he had a rat on the end of a wire. He was standing back and making that thing run around under my chair. I nearly fainted! He was always stirring things up at home, singing, talking in weird voices and being a scorch! Never a dull moment when Jake was around! He was a natural athlete starting at around age 3 whizzing around on his wheelies entertaining everyone who saw him. He also was a star soccer, basketball and baseball player winning many awards. Jake worked hard and played even harder. He had a following of admiring friends and family. After graduating from Mynderse Academy he continued his education at Cortland where he made even more friends both male and female. I am sure he there were many adventures there that his parents nor I ever heard about! Those 4 years of college flew by with Jacob doing well in school doing his baseball gig, and enjoying summers on Cayuga Lake, working at the park, teaching swim lessons to little people, and playing golf. Now Jaker will be moving on to the next chapter. He will be facing the real world with the same childlike enthusiasm and playful attitude he has always exuded. Watch out world! Jacob Richard Smith will enrich the lives of everyone he meets! He has mine, and I love him to pieces! Congratulations, Jake!
Change poem background
In Cortland's halls, where laughter rings,
Jake thrived amidst the vibrant springs.
From childhood’s days, a playful spark,
A whirlwind dance, a bright hallmark.
“At the restroom’s door,” young Jake declared,
“It’s all yours, sista!” a moment shared.
His mother’s scold—a stern delight,
Yet, joy from Jake’s infectious light.
A rat on wire, beneath my chair,
The air was filled with shrieks and flair.
No corner safe from his wild glee,
A boundless font of jollity.
Sports called to him, a natural ace,
On fields of glory, he left his trace.
With wheelies and a rapid pace,
He earned his laurels, claimed his space.
At Mynderse, then to Cortland’s halls,
Where friendships grew like ivy walls.
Summers by the Cayuga side,
Life was a joyous, endless ride.
Now, Jake departs to wider streams,
With laughter spun from youthful dreams.
The world awaits his radiant grin,
Enriched by all he's ever been.
Congratulations, Jaker, rise and soar,
With love you’ve scattered, there’s more in store.
May every heart you touch, like mine,
Be lit by joy that is purely thine.
