Jake is graduating from Cortland State College. He is the most fun loving guy on campus. So many funny memories of this funny kid…I remember the day he left the restroom, looked at me and said “it’s all yours, sista”. His mother was mortified and reprimanded him sternly. I thought it was hysterical. He was only about 4 years old. Then there was the day he had a rat on the end of a wire. He was standing back and making that thing run around under my chair. I nearly fainted! He was always stirring things up at home, singing, talking in weird voices and being a scorch! Never a dull moment when Jake was around! He was a natural athlete starting at around age 3 whizzing around on his wheelies entertaining everyone who saw him. He also was a star soccer, basketball and baseball player winning many awards. Jake worked hard and played even harder. He had a following of admiring friends and family. After graduating from Mynderse Academy he continued his education at Cortland where he made even more friends both male and female. I am sure he there were many adventures there that his parents nor I ever heard about! Those 4 years of college flew by with Jacob doing well in school doing his baseball gig, and enjoying summers on Cayuga Lake, working at the park, teaching swim lessons to little people, and playing golf. Now Jaker will be moving on to the next chapter. He will be facing the real world with the same childlike enthusiasm and playful attitude he has always exuded. Watch out world! Jacob Richard Smith will enrich the lives of everyone he meets! He has mine, and I love him to pieces! Congratulations, Jake!

In Cortland's halls, where laughter sings so bright,
Young Jake, the jester, playfully would roam,
From childhood days, a spark of pure delight,
To college years, he made those walls his home.

A bathroom jest, begun at age of four,
Confounded adults, yet left us in cheer,
A rat on wire made our hearts race for more,
His antics threaded joy in all held dear.

On wheelies spun, with boundless skill and ease,
A natural athlete, star of every game,
Adored by friends, with whimsy he'd appease,
Both field and heart, enriched with his acclaim.

Now onward, Jake, with laughter as your guide,
The world awaits, your light won't be denied.
