Poem for my 80th birthday lunch. Born in Clifton. Parents Bill and Betty. Head chorister in Christchurch. Drummer in The Silhouettes. Working at Fry's chocolate factory in cost office. Playing football and cricket. Scoring lots of goals. Having 4 children. 17 grandchildren and 2 grandchildren too. Running a newsagency. Winning the cup at Wembley with Forest Green Rovers. Working at Swindon Town, Bristol Rovers, Exeter City and Bristol City football clubs. Presenting quizzes. Having lots of pets, cats, tortoises, geckos and budgies. Holidays all over UK and the world. Marrying Mo in 1999. Running an entertainments agency. Battling cancer in 2008 - and surviving. Having a loving and supportive wife and family. Living in Severn Beach and tending the sheep. Thankful for so many memories. Remembering absent friends.
Change poem background
In Clifton’s cradle, where my tale began,
To Bill and Betty, I was just a man.
With Christchurch's songs, as head chorister I rose,
A path through music, the journey life chose.
In rhythms I found, with The Silhouettes' beat,
The candy at Fry's marked the rhythm sweet.
On fields, both in cricket and football, I ran,
With goals like dreams, scored whenever I can.
Four children my legacy, and seventeen more,
Grandchildren aplenty, upon life’s shore.
A bustling newsagent, where stories unfold,
At Wembley, triumphs with Forest Green told.
My work with clubs from Swindon to City's pride,
In quizzes and questions, my passions reside.
A haven of pets with fur, feathers, and scales,
Life's exciting journey leaves countless trails.
With Mo, my love, in '99 I wed,
Battled cancer in '08, with courage I tread.
From Severn Beach, where the sheep gently roam,
I pen memories of love, family, and home.
For holidays embraced and friends now beyond,
I'm thankful for every laugh and the bonds.
At eighty, I stand, with tales living free,
A life rich in love and sweet memory.
