Change poem background
Eighty years of life well-spent,
In Walker Dunbar, my tale was pent.
Born to Bill and Betty's grace,
Near Clifton's zoo, my childhood place.
On Lansdown Road, where echoes played,
In Downs' embrace we laughed and swayed.
A chorister's voice in Christchurch choir,
With friends for life, our hearts afire.
11 plus—a scholar's pride,
At Bedminster Down, the dreams abide.
Yet truancy called; the world was vast,
At Fry's began my working past.
Counting costs and scoring goals,
A century in football—achieving souls.
Drummer's beat amidst migraine's fog,
In The Silhouettes where passions jog.
Father of four, a legacy sprawled,
Grandchildren's laughter, great-grandchildren called.
A warden, a seller, in the city's hum,
With millions of tickets, fortunes spun.
Cancer's shadow met my might,
Mo and family held the light.
In countless quizzes, knowledge wove,
Charities lifted, spirits wove.
Severn Beach where I now rest,
With chickens and lambs, my heart's blessed nest.
To absent friends, a toast we'll make,
In trust and charity, paths we stake.
Eighty years, from there to here,
Happy memories ever near.
Thank you all for this cherished day,
In life's grand journey, come what may.
