My 80th birthday poem. I was born in Walker Dunbar, Clifon in 1945. My parents were Bill and Betty. We lived in Lansdown Road near the zoo. Always playing on the nearby Clifton Downs. Head chorister in Christchurch choir. Attended Christchurch school and met frioends for life. Passed 11 plus and went to Bedminster Down School. Truancy! Went to work as a traineee at Fry's chocolate factory. Worked in Cost office. Played football and cricket. Sciored lots of goals. Scored a century at football. Drummer in The Silhouettes. Migraine and drums don't mix. Passed exams in accountancy and marketing. Father to 4 children. 17 grandchildren. 2 great-grandchildren. Ran a newsagency in Fishponds. Was churchwarden at St Mary's. Worked at Parnalls as Publicity Manager. Commerciasl Director at Forest Green Rovers football club. Winning the FA Vase at Wembley Stadium. Commercial manager at Swindon Town, Bristol Rovers, Exeter City. Married Mo at Exeter in 1999. 25 years with Mo at Bristol City selling 1.5 million draw tickets. Worked as Traffic warden moving up to manager of 100 wardens. Pets aplenty, cats, tortoises, geckos and budgies. Winning Oesophageal cancer battle in 2008 with fantastic support from Mo and my family. Being retired on medical grounds. Family weddings in Sorrento and Las Vegas. Setting and presenting quizzes as The Inquizitors with Rob and Mo. Making thousands of pounds for charities. Running Acts About Town entertainments agency. Lived in Longwell Green, Kingswood, Whitchurch, Olveston and now Severn Beach. Tending chickens and lambs. Absent friends. Being a trustee for Moments charity group. Still making happy memories. Thank you for making this day a memorable one.

A century scored on turf with goals clear,
On drums in The Silhouettes a storm,
Eighty years unfold with such grace and cheer.

A bustling home, laughter rings loud and near,
Running a newsagency through life’s storm,
Through Clifton Downs where youth was sincere.

Past trials of health with family near,
A journey of love, vast lands to explore,
Eighty years unfold with such grace and cheer,
Through Clifton Downs where youth was sincere.
